Mr. Obama is well known by any intelligent human for his distinguished ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. As with most pols, he tells each audience what it wants to hear and that he is solidly behind it. Nothing new in any of this.

Actually, it was Abdullah II's father, King Hussein, who was responsible for the destruction of graves in Jerusalem. According to the Jewish Virtual Library, "Jordan desecrated Jewish holy places. King Hussein permitted the construction of a road to the Intercontinental Hotel across the Mount of Olives cemetery. Hundreds of Jewish graves were destroyed by a highway that could have easily been built elsewhere. The gravestones, honoring the memory of rabbis and sages, were used by the engineer corps of the Jordanian Arab Legion as pavement and latrines in army camps (inscriptions on the stones were still visible when Israel liberated the city)." It was also under Hussein's rule that Jordan enacted many anti-Christian decrees. -- Ed.

In the interest of historic accuracy --
It was King Abdullah II's great-grandfather, )not his father as mentioned) Abdullah I, that presided over the desecration, and destruction of the Jewish Quarter and other Holy Sites in the Old City of Jerusalem, as well as the expulsion of all Jews living in Judea and Samaria that fell under Transjordanian military occupation from 1948-1967.
Abudullah I reigned until July 20, 1951, when he was assassinated outside of Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. His son Talal, succeeded him. However, Talal was mentally unstable and was replaced on August 11, 1952 by his son (Abdullah's grandson) Hussein. King Hussein rules until his death on February 7, 1999, when the current king succeeded him.

As long as Obama is in the White House, there is little hope that the US will suddenly turn friendly again. Keep your fingers crossed for the 2012 elections. Most conservative Republicans are quite pro Israel.

In an odd way, this hatred of the Jews is a high compliment. When one *needs* to hate and denigrate another person or group, one is confessing a deep seated self hatred, a feeling that one doesn't quite measure up. And since the Arabs/Palestinians have produced and created so little beyond hatred, violence and destruction, there is good reason for them to feel insecure in their bodies. That their leaders/masters work hard to keep them in that condition makes things all the worse. The only excitement or "joy" they show only appears when they are killing or blowing things up, things which they seem incapable of producing themselves.

Thank you for your comments about past attempts. I am sorry your efforts did not make you rich at that time. Yes, the largest oil shale reserves are in the Western U.S. in the areas you mention. Keep in mind that's discovered reserves. There are no doubt other areas waiting to be discovered. --Ed.

I believe you are misinformed on the danger to the water. My understanding is that there is a mile of impervious rock between the oil shale and Israel's aquifer. This is not the case in Colorado where it does cross the aquifer. In any case, the financial and strategic gains far outweigh the environmental consideration even were some contaminants to reach the water. -- Ed.

You ask:
"Would anyone have imagined three decades ago that Israel could become one of the world’s leading energy exporters? The notion would have seemed incredible."

'Tovel b'shemen raglo,' Moshe said about Asher's inheritance in HaTorah.
I worked for Gillman Hill of Energy Exploration Inc. out of Denver CO. He believed it based on God's Word. I worked with crew members of Lapidoth, on Gilman's second well just below Daliyat Carmel where I lived with my family among the Druze. It was 1986, so yes, technically speaking we did imagine that the oil that was discovered at about 15,000 feet earlier in the 1980s but wasn't extracted at that time, could indeed be produced. "It is just a matter of timing," Mr. Hill, my employer told me. "I don't think the time is yet," and he was right. Our attempt failed and he basically lost his business trying.
Andy Sorrell from Houston had a similar experience, finding oil on the coast below Haifa on the IDF naval base (basically) around Caesaria.
Atleast that is what the Lapidoth guys told me who worked for Andy and then, with me, for Gilman.

Anyway, I'm a native of Colorado and curious. If Israel is sitting on the 2nd largest proven reserve of oil shale, doesn't #1 go to the area where Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming come together?

That is just a guess. Maybe the latest find that is stoking the current oil boom here in Texas would be my second guess...(;~))

The proposed oil shale project in Israel is located above one of Israel's main drinking water reservoirs. The Yarkon Tanim reservoir which is one of our biggest water sources will be at risk of corruption by pollution from the oil shale project as dangerous gases and materials leak in the aquifer. The oil shale it is not needed or necessary, as it will only produce less than 20% of our daily oil consumption. If we are to stay the course we should make sure this dangerous US experiment does not happen .
